Aresne Wenger admits that Jack Wilshere red card was justified
Arsenal's manager, Arsene Wenger, has gone on to admit to the fact that the red card, which was shown to Jack Wilshere was one that was thoroughly deserved by the player and that he has no complaints over the referee's decision.
The red card was shown to the young Englishman, after he went in very late and with his studs up on Birmingham forward, Nikola Zigic.
Wenger was reported to have said: "He mistimed his tackled and got a red card, which he deserved," said the Arsenal manager.
"Jack has acknowledged he deserved it, but he did not spend his whole game trying to kick people, he was one of the best players on the pitch.
"It was more of frustration and did not want to hurt the player, but we do not complain about the red card".
Zigic had the ball at his feet near the throw in line in the Arsenal half and with only minutes of extra time left on the clock, all the Arsenal players were in a frantic rush to try and get the ball off the Birmingham players.
That is exactly what Wilshere had in mind as he sprinted from the center of the pitch, to the by line to try and win the ball off the forward. About three yards from the player, the young English international launched a sliding tackle, however, by the time
his foot reached the area where he thought the ball was, it had already been passed on by Zigic, which is why he ended up catching the tall center forwards ankle instead.
The referee hesitated a bit, but in the end he ultimately had no option but to show Wilshere a straight red, due to the fact that the player had his studs up going into the challenge.
Prior to the tackle, Wilshere has easily been Arsenal's best player on the pitch. The player was playing a very mature role in the center of midfield. Almost every single pass that the player had made on the night ended up in the feet of his team mates,
which just showed that Wilshere was a definite player for the team for years to come.
He had not only been brilliant while going forward, but was also great at coming back and helping the team out defensively. The player seems to have finally emerged to become the player that Wenger always imagined him to be, this is of course keeping in
mind the fact that that player still hasn't turned twenty yet.
