Argentina Open: Ellerstina clinches Triple Crown
Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra (Black Label Ellerstina) has been succeeded to complete the hat-trick of victories by acquiring 117th edition of Argentina Open Polo Championship (117th Campeonato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario Movistar)
held at field-1 Palermo, Argentina. Ellerstina after a tough competition overpowered La Dolfina Peugeot with 14-13 and took the revenge of the finals of 2008.
Ellerstina by winning the third consecutive tournament in 2010 proved itself best squad of the season, which acquired three events in a year including Argentina Open Polo Championship, Tortugas Open and the Hurlingham Open.
The defending champions, La Dolfina in the headship of far-famed Adolfo Cambiaso could not defend their title and lose the Triple Crown in the last movements of the match.
The duo foursomes displayed quite a mature game enlaced with eye-popping strikes and breathtaking defensive shots. Firstly, in last six years, the game among the glaring strikers of Argentina was ended in the regulation time of eight chukkers.
It was not a simple game but was a battle among eight goal striking guns, which are all best in their respective areas. The historic final was very enthralling for the spectators as well, which was played at very high tone. It was full of attacks, counters
attacks and legendary hits.
To applaud any single player will be wrong as all the players of duo foursomes rendered outstanding performance as per the expectations of polo fans and lovers. However, luck was not with La Dolfina, which failed to earn the Triple Crown of the country.
Ellerstina won the final competition by 14-13 score and dashed the hopes of Adolfo Cambiaso’s fans across the globe.
Top scorers of the winning side were Facundo Pieres and Gonzalito Pieres with six goals each, while Pablo MacDonough accounted for one goal. The legendary defender of Ellerstina, Juan Martin contributed one goal in the victorious side and saved numerous
shots of the opponent’s team.
On the other side, outstanding player and striker Adolfo Cambiaso marked six goals in the losing side which could not save La Dolfina from defeat in the Argentina Open. His teammates Pelon Stirling and Lolo Castagnola scored four and two goals respectively,
while Lucas Monteverde contributed one goal in the losing side. It was second defeat of Adolfo Cambiaso within the year.
Juan Martin Nero of Ellerstina acquired the MVP award of the finals, while fabled Adolfo Cambiaso achieved the best player of the tournament award by scoring 43 goals in the tournament.
