Argentina Open: Ellerstina qualifies for final
Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra (Black Label Ellerstina) has ruined the desires of La Aguada BMW by defeating it 14-11 in the semi-final match of 117th Argentine Open Polo Championship Bicentennial Movistar (117th Campeonato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario
Movistar) and qualified for the finals of the event.
The first semi-final of the tournament was played at field-1 Palermo between La Aguada BMW and Ellerstina, where Ellerstina displayed mature and disciplined game and confirmed its berth in the finals by ousting La Aguada in the race.
The Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra (Black Label Ellerstina) foursome was comprised of Gonzalo Pieres (10), Facundo Pieres (10), Pablo Mac Donough (10) and Juan Martin Nero (10) while La Aguada BMW the family team of Astrada was consisted of Miguel Novillo Astrada
(10), Ignacio Novillo Astrada (9), Eduardo Novillo Astrada (9) and Alejandro Novillo Astrada (8).
Ellerstina qualified for the final of the tournament after a hard competition against La Aguada, which also displayed an outstanding performance; however it was not the day of La Aguada. Javier the brilliant forward of La Aguada was missing from the team
due to injury, which made really difference in the results of the match.
It was hard-fought competition as the two foursomes put all their efforts to climb the victory; however talented moves of Ellerstina worked a lot and made the victory possible. La Aguada attempted to take the opponent foursome under control but imaginative
and endowment game of Ellerstina foiled all the attacks.
Ellerstina was not the foursome which people usually know in the first three chukkers of the match; however Ellerstina’s strikers revved up and acquired the triumph quite comfortably.
Both the foursome could not create huge difference in the first four chukkers of the game, as the score was lying at 8-7 after completion of the first half.
Ellerstina and La Aguada started the game quite aggressively in the second half as one wanted to hold the lead while the other team wanted to equal the score.
In start of the second half, La Aguada marked one goal which was replied by two consecutive goals of the Ellerstina foursome. With the two back to back goals of Ellerstina, the La Aguada foursome got under pressure.
The goal progress was continuing from both the sides; however Ellerstina marked two more goals - one on penalty hit while the other from the field which confirmed its victory in the game.
Ellerstina won the competition with 14-11 as the duo foursomes scored two goals apiece in the final two chukkers.
The highest scorer of the semi-final was Facundo Pieres with seven goals followed by three goals of Gonzalo Pieres while Pablo Donough and Juan Martin accounted for two and one goal respectively.
One the other side, Ignacio Novillo marked five goals in the losing side while his teammate Miguel scored three goals. Eduardo Novillo and Alejandro contributed two and one goal respectively but could not save their foursome from defeat.
The Campeonato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del (Argentina Open Polo Championship) is the virtually far-famed interclub competition in the world, which was firstly held in 1893 at Cathedral Palermo, Argentina. Teams having 28 to 40 goals handicaps in the International
ranking usually took part in the Argentina Open Polo Championship.
Some eight foursomes were taking part in the 117th version of Argentina Open Polo Championship including Ellerstina (40), La Dolfina (39), La Aguada (37), Chapa Uno (35), Indios Chapaleufu II (34), Alegria Air France (34), Pilara Piaget (33) and
Sao Jose Audi (30).
Ellerstina will face defending champion La Dolfina on December 11th at Cathedral Palermo in the finals of Argentina Open Polo Championship.
