I need as much information you can give me on travel spots or anything else about Argentina. I am on a 2,500 budget for a 7 day trip there (School Project, not really going) I have quite a bit of information already, but a insiders view of where to go and all that would be much appreciated.

  1. I did a semester abroad in Cordoba, Argentina and got to travel a bunch there.  Places to vist:

La Universidad Nacional de Cordoba - Is the oldest university in Argentina

Mendoza - Known internationally for it's wine, border of Chile

Las Cataratas de Iguazu - Waterfalls that rival Niagra Falls on the border of Brazil/Argentina/Paraguay

Ushuaia/Tierra del Fuego - Southern most tip of Argentina where you can see actual penguins!

San Martin - In the Andes Mountains, many small villages to visit and places to hike

Salta/Jujuy - Northern Argentina close to Bolivian border - (we stopped by through here on our way to hike Machu Piccu in Peru) famous for cathedrals

La Boca - Immigrant neighborhood of Buenos Aires known for it's brightly colored buildings said to be painted so because when immigrants settled there they didn't have enough money to buy one color of paint to paint their houses, businesses etc. and used bits of random paint.

Local customs you have to know :)

"Che" means "buddy" and everyone uses it

"Mate" is an herbal tea everyone drinks loose out of a "mate" gourd and drinks through straw called a "bombilla."  Mate is is shared among a group of friends - they all drink out of the same "mate"/gourd.

"(Carne) asada/o" is what Argentina is famous for.  Argentina is known for it's beef (and leather), but how it's prepared, in an open pit is what makes carne asada what it is.

"Dulce de leche" is basically a richer, creamer version of carmel - McDonald's restaurants serve vanilla and dulce de leche flavored ice cream cones... yum!

    Quilmes - Argentina's trademark beer

"Futbol" (soccer) is life for "argentinos."

"Porteños" are people from Buenos Aires known for their sing-songy flow of speaking

Tango - Awesome to see in the streets of Buenos Aires

*Just an FYI, if this is a Spanish class project, argentinos don't use the "tu"/informal form of "you" in Spanish.  They instead use the word "vos" which uses a bit different conjugations (i.e. "¿Cuantos anos tenes?" for "How old are you?" instead of "¿Cuantos anos tienes?")

**Also did you know that Argentina has a large Italian population as well as German and Welsh in the south?

Please let me know if you need any more info.  Good luck!

  2. Oh boy, where to start, I am from and still live in Argentina, Buenos Aires the capital and I can tell you it is beauitful. If you like Europe you will love Argentina, because we are mostly Europeans. Our culture is mixed between sereval countries like Italy, Spain, and Germany to name a few. A good example of this mixing is the Tango. I would reccomend you go to Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Bariloche for sking and see culture there too. If you have any other questions feel free to E mail me at XGustaX@yahoo.com I mean theres a lot I could tell you about my country

  3. Well, I can help you. I'm from Buenos Aires, in Argentina.

Our capital city is the most important place in here, and a lot of tourists visit us every year. But inside the country there are a lot of beautiful places: Bariloche, Ushuaia (there are lakes, mountains), Iguazú Falls, Perito Moreno Glacier, Moon Valley, the Seven Colours mount, beaches, jungles, forests, etc.

Most part of Argentinian people love soccer and music. The best football soccer teams are River Plate and Boca Juniors. The most popular music is "national rock", "cumbia" and "reggeaton", but there's a lot of people who like international music. Tango is very popular here too.

The people is friendly, especially people from the provinces.

Maybe you already now our language is Spanish and our flag is light blue and white with a sun...

Well, if you want to know anything about Argentina, just e-mail me: my e-mail is mel_river_plate@hotmail.com.
