Argentina cruises to 3-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago at the Pan Am Cup – Volleyball News
Women’s volleyball squads from Argentina and Trinidad & Tobago contested their skills in a Pan American Cup fixture on Friday.
Mexican city Ciudad Juarez set up the field of play, where Argentina edged out T&T in straight sets 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-13). The match lasted for more than 1 hour. A crowd of 400 people witnessed the action at the Gimnasio COBACH sports hall.
It was a second appearance for both teams in Group B of the XI Women’s Pan Am Cup. Trinidadian ladies overpowered hosts Mexico in the previous match that took place on Thursday and enjoyed a good vibe. Argentina, on the other hand, dropped its first match
to Peru and looked determined to give out a better performance in the second match.
Set-1 of the match featured a balanced action from both sides. Trinidad & Tobago had the competitive edge of winning its previous match, while Argentina showed the urge to cover up the deficit. Hence, the two sides rallied hard for points and set tone for
a great competition. The spectators enjoyed the game of hit ‘n’ run and supported their favourite teams and players. The score shifted up with close intervals and both sides regularly traded lead. In the end, Argentina proved to be better and closed the opening
set with two-point lead, 26-24.
The loss of opening set dragged T&T under pressure. On contrary, Argentina came up with improved performance in the second set. Argentinean spikers made good use of their hands and produced unstoppable shots. Hard work and dedication allowed Argentina to
claim second set with fair margin of points (25-14), which moved the team to 2-0 in the match.
Trinidadians constantly remained in the blues and accepted defeat after losing third consecutive set.
Two Argentinean players went into double-digits and added 10 points apiece, while Trinidad had only one player with 10 points. Leticia Boscacci and Josefina Fernandez led Argentina to success, whereas Natasha Busquets fought for T&T.
“Congratulations to Argentina. They understood what we were doing wrong and used that against us. We didn’t read the plays well and our defense was not good,” said Trinidad’s Kristle Esdelle after the match.
Argentina’s Horacio Bastit commented: “Trinidad & Tobago has evolved lately and you have to play 100 percent against them, otherwise you are going to lose. As a matter of fact, they deserved to win the first set.”
Trinidad and Tobago’s Francisco Cruz opined that their team lost the match due to the lack of experience.
Argentina is schedule to take on hosts Mexico in the next match on Saturday. Likewise, Trinidad & Tobago will go against Brazil on the weekend.
