Argentina defeats Dominican Republic by 3-1 in a FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball
With the FIVB World Cup Women’s tournament started in Japan, the participating teams played their opening matches today in Hiroshima as well as Nagano. One of the start up matches saw the world number 20th ranked Argentinean team compete with
number 14th ranked Dominican Republic. What followed was a four set long contest in which the Argentineans were able to surprise the spectators and bag themselves a win at 3-1.
The first set of the match saw the Dominican Republic dominate the courts. The Argentineans could not muster a lead and kept on trailing behind till their rivals had earned themselves a win. However, the Argentineans came out as a rejuvenated team in the
second set of the match and equalised the game after bagging an impressive win. The third set too followed the same pattern as its predecessor as the Argentineans gave the Dominican Republic a hard time and bagged another win. A two set deficit did not sit
well with the Dominican Republic and they made a fight in the fourth set but it was not enough to upset the progress of the Argentineans who were able to seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 18-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-22.
The coach of the Argentinean team Bastit Horacio, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “We’re very glad here to win, and we really enjoyed playing this match. It was a difficult
match because the Dominican Republic is stronger than us, but we did our best in all aspects of the match.”
The captain of the Argentinean team, Emilce Sosa, shared her jubilation in the following manner: “I’m happy to get this win. We did all we had to do in this match. I think we showed how we have grown recently.”
On the other hand, the Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek shared his views in the following way: “We did great at first, but Argentina gained control in the second set. Their service and blocking was very strong.”
The first set of the match saw the Argentineans take the lead early on at 6-2 but the Dominican Republic was not about to give up and they were able to push past their rivals and take the lead at 14-7. Once they had the lead, the Dominican Republic did not
let go of the advantage till they had secured the first set at 25-18. The loss of the opening set triggered the Argentineans into action and they put on an impressive show of skill and strength that got them the next three sets in a row at 25-17, 25-18 and
25-22 respectively.
