Argentina defeats Italy 3-1 in 2011 FIVB World League fixture – Volleyball news
Argentina and Italy went head to head in a 2011 FIVB World League match on Wednesday, July 6th, in the first fixture of Pool E. The match was fairly one sided as the Argentineans were able to defeat the Italians in four sets in Gdansk, Poland.
The first set was the only one that the Italians could secure for themselves. After that, Argentina won each of the next three sets with relative ease. The set scores showed that the performance of the Italians was just not enough and the Argentinean squad
ran away with a win at 20-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-22.
The start of the first set of the game saw the Italians take the lead early on at 8-5. After the first time out the Argentineans were able to step up their game and bring the score level at 11-11. However, the Italians did not let it affect their stride
and they were able to take charge again. The Argentineans kept on trailing behind and the Italian squad was successful in reaching the finish line first and bagging the opening set of the game at 25-20. Savani played an integral part in the win as he was able
to post nine points for his team.
Having lost the first set of the game, the Argentineans were looking for a win. Argentina was able to take the lead early on but the Italians were determined not to let their rivals get away with the advantage. As a result, the Argentineans could not expand
their lead to more than a two point margin and the match was intense at 21-19. The Italian coach tried to swing the game by substituting a player but it did not have the desired effect and Argentina was able to finish off the set at 25-20.
Italy did not give up and was able to secure itself the lead in the third set but Argentina eventually got it to 16-14. Despite Italy’s efforts, they could not stop Argentina from securing the third set at 25-22.
