Argentina defeats Venezuela by 3-2 in a Pan American Games - Volleyball
Argentinean beat Venezuelan by 3-2 on Wednesday, October 26,during a pool match of the men’s volleyball tournament at the Pan American Games in the Mexican city of Guadalajara.
Venezuela and Argentina competed with each other for five thrilling sets and when the tough battle between the two was finally over, the Argentineans found themselves to be the victors of the day at the following final set scores: 25-23, 21-25, 29-27, 23-25
and 18-16.
The first set of the match was the most competitive as both sides remained neck to neck with each other. As the opening set reached its final stages, the Argentineans were able to come out strong and bag the frame. The second set saw the Venezuelans bounce
back and secure themselves the frame to equalize the match. The third set of the game was the most competitive as both the teams battled hard to get the advantage in the match. As a result, the frame went on longer than usual and saw the Argentineans bag a
win finally. The struggle seemed to have exhausted the Argentineans as they could not hold their fort in the fourth set and gave up the frame to the Venezuelans. However, the fifth set of the match was thrilling as expected and ended with a well deserved win
for the Argentineans.
The coach of the Argentinean team, Javier Weber, made the following comments at the press conference after the match reached its close: “We have played 15 sets in three days. They are young; they can respond and recover fast. These are their first Pan American
Games; they have given the best of them.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Venezuelan team, Gilberto Herrera, shared his views by making the following statements: “For the fans this was a very good match. For the coaches this match helped us to see what is good and what is bad in our game, and
what we need to avoid. It was important for to play like that because the players feel more secure about themselves.”
The Argentineans were able to dominate the show by pulling off a total of 23 points by their superior blocking skills.
The player that was able to put up the highest number of points in the entire match belonged to Venezuela. Jhoser Contreras became the top scorer by registering a total of 24 points for his team.
