Don't you think the kick into touch to gain 20 yards but lose possession is becoming boring/pointless/old-fashioned?

The kick ahead or up-and-under keeps the action going and really makes the game more watchable instead of all these kicks into touch and lineouts. Good for the Argies, I like their style.

  1. Kicking into touch aint all pointless, sometimes its a tactic to give the fowards a breather!

Also that anything could've happened with the up and under, the opponents may counter and that can be disasterous.

and keeping the ball in play when kicking, you will lose possesion anyway just as when u kick it out unless an up and under goes back to the attacking team.

Its good to kick it out because sometimes, you may make huge territorial gains and at least when u do that, you also have the chance to disrupt and get the ball against the throw and thats a big gain for the kicking team!

  2. it definitely speeds the game up and makes it more exciting

  3. The kick into touch is almost useless... IF IT ONLY GOES 20 YARDS! The TOP Five-Eights can kick for touch upto 80 meters easy... Now that can totally swing the momenttum in the game.

If you like this kind of rugby...

Then just watch League or Sevens.

Whats the point of kicking forward when its just gunna come back?

Kick for touch is a perfect play when executed perfectly... The point of it is to kick the ball as close to the opponents try line without going over or going out on the full.

If the team has a good line out squad... then the more reason to do it. Incase the other team gets the ball on the line out... they will be forced to kick it out aswell to get some breathing space... meaning some meters gained in just a couple of moves. The forward pack can just push over for the try. Even the possibility of a drop goal... or put pressure on the other team by not playing the ball on your half. Or even better yet... deny the opposition of kicking for goals incase of penalties, etc... it gives the attacking team LOTS of breathing space.

  4. I agree, a high ball played down the pitch and chased up puts the other team under pressure and often ends up in a turnover! Hernandes is a gud example! Also it adds a good change of pace to the game where kicking to touch slows the game down and also you lose posession!
