Argentina levels game score in fourth match of 2011 International Series
The Women’s National Volleyball Teams of Argentina and Canada got together for a four-match International Volleyball series from June 23-27.
The campaign was hosted by Canadian Volleyball Federation, which set up first three matches in Winnipeg and last match in Brandon. The home squad kicked off the series on a strong footing and defeated Argentinean ladies in the opening two matches. Head coach,
Arnd Ludwig formulized excellent game plan for his team and led them to success.
The start of the campaign was good for Canada but the downfall started in third match as Canadians couldn’t keep up the same potential. The resilient rival Argentina came out of sheep clothes in third match on Sunday, June 26 and showed Canada its rough
side. Team Canada dropped third match, while the rivals recovered from the shock and jumped back on track.
In the last match of the friendly tournament, Argentina held off Canada for another fantastic win. Team Argentina was ‘in for the kill’ and they devastated Canadians with the heavy strike of volleys. Home squad fought well but eventually ended up receiving
0-3 (25-27, 22-25, and 23-25) defeat in Monday’s match. Hence Argentina managed to hit the equalizer in fourth match and finished with the final score of 2-2.
Argentina’s captain girl Georgina Pinedo stormed Canadian half with unstoppable cross court shots. She hit from different angles and added crucial points to her team’s score. She performed well both offensively and defensively. Team Argentine had the contribution
of 12 points from Miss Pinedo. Sarah Pavan of Canada struggled to raise her team’s score. She was credited for 11 kills in the match. In the third place, Lucia Fresco of Argentina added nine points.
Arnd Ludwig, the mentor of Canadian Team explained the reason of failure after the match.
He stated, “We had too many unforced errors today. The last two matches of the series showed us that we have to stay controlled and disciplined in tight situations. We did it very well in the first two, but didn’t follow the game plan in the second.”
The four-game series created a great chance for both teams to get ready for the upcoming Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup in Mexico. Argentina and Canada will be on board to strive for better status. The Team Canada’s roster for Pan Am Cup includes following
players:
Janie Guimond (Becancour, QC) Nadine Alphonse (Montreal, QC) Marie-Pier Méthot (Quebec City, QC) Lucy Charuk (Tsawwassen, BC) Brittney Page (Vernon, BC) Lauren O’Reilly (Langley, BC) Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) Elizabeth Cordonier (Vancouver, BC) Claire Hanna (Calgary, AB) Tammy Mahon (Holland, MB) Kyla Richey (Roberts Creek, BC) Dana Cranston (Fort St. John, BC) Carla Bradstock (Richmond, BC) Tasha Holness (Calgary, AB)
The next meeting of these two teams at the Pan Am Cup will surely create a lot of buzz. The fans of both sides are waiting for the next big fight.
