Argentina looking for head-start in third week of 2011 FIVB World League – Volleyball news
The men’s premier international volleyball competition, 2011 FIVB World League, has entered its third week on Thursday, June 9. An incredible show of volleyball was staged in the previous two weeks, while the fans had a great time watching thrilling encounters. As the play resumes in week three, teams get ready for another array of exciting matches. The Men’s National Volleyball Team of Argentina demonstrated a prolific performance in the first two segments of the preliminary round and finished as the top team in Pool C.
The head coach Javier Weber’s team played four matches and pulled off success in three matches. The team in white and blue outfits actually set a new record of winning three matches in a row at the FIVB World League. Team Argentina performed amazingly well and captured their 2nd, 3rd and 4th match against Serbia and Portugal, respectively. The South American team is now directed toward the Final Round in Poland, next month.
Argentina was put up with an early defeat in the tournament opener. The Serbian team accumulated too much pressure on the Argentineans in the first match and beat them in straight sets. Nevertheless, the next match brought a different fate for Argentina. They played whole heartedly and successfully sought revenge from the Serbs. Javier Weber’s squad defeated Serbia in the convincing sets.
In the second week, Argentina came across Portugal. The Portuguese young guns put up a valiant effort but couldn’t overcome the power of their stronger rivals. Argentina made a clean sweep and won both matches. At the end of the second-week, Argentina stood tall in the line of pool toppers.
Argentinean success was result of team effort but the skipper Rodrigo Quiroga and head coach Javier Weber obviously deserved more appreciation. The 24-year-old captain of Argentina played an instrumental role in keeping the team united and led them through pressure situations. Quite similarly, the credit goes to Weber. He has been very successful in giving the best game-plan to his team so far. He prepared his team in such a way that they managed to defeat dangerous team like Serbia.
Javier is optimistic that the team will get more wins in the third week. Argentina will be challenged by Finland in the third week and the Finnish team has the second-best scorer of the first two weeks. However, the Finns have overall failed to create buzz. Argentina is all prepared to take on Finland in the next two matches as Javier Weber’s team is equipped with all necessary tools and tricks of the game. It is likely that Argentina will easily beat Finland in the next roung of matches.
