Argentina marks victory over Spain in 9-12 classification round of FIVB Volleyball Championship

Argentina came to blow Spain in the classification round of FIVB Men’s World Championship and recorded a wonderful victory of 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-19, and 26-24). The tight control and superiority in attack enabled Argentina to begin the 9-12 classification
round on a good note. With the efforts of head coach, Javier Weber, Argentinean team gained success and now targets to approach the Number 9 position in the tournament. Argentina will be playing the final match for 9th position against Czech Republic
today (Saturday).
First Set
The first set of game promoted Spain as better team. They served the ball with great technique and held it under their grip. The controlled movement of players and excellent shots with varied speed created high level of difficulty for Argentina. Anyhow,
Martin Blanco Costa stepped up to block the cruising spikes of Spaniards and broke their rhythm. Argentina made a positive move and built a lead of 8-5 but Spanish team came back strong. They hit killing aces and quickly grabbed three consecutive points to
tie the score at 8-8.
The see-saw battle continued and both teams kept busy in attacks. In the progression of game, Argentina jumped on every opportunity and gained a two-point break at 18-17. Spain bounced back and racked important points in the next few minutes of the set.
Facundo Conte of Argentina defended his team’s position but couldn’t stop Spaniards to close the set at 25-23 in the first set. The bruising encounter in first set signalled a more fierce fight in the next set.
Second Set
Argentina couldn’t digest Spain’s victory in first set. Gustavo’s powerful serves opened the second set and fire was started. Argentina earned quick points and led the game with a score of 8-6. Spain couldn’t penetrate the line-shots and heavy spikes of
Argentinean players. Argentina put more pressure on them and tightened their screws after the first technical timeout (TTO). Roderigo and Fucando stretched the gap of points and took the score to 11-7. Afterwards, Argentina maintained a fair difference of
points and moved along. They jumped on 16-14 and incorporated more attack attempts to raise the score to 22-16.
Spain seemed to have lost control over the ball and committed too many unforced mistakes. Argentina got the advantage and edged them by putting 25-19 in second set.
Third Set
The game score was tied at 1-1 and both teams put equal force in third set. Spain overcame their faulty shots and attained stability. Argentina remained on the same course and dug up another lead of 8-6. Perez Iban of Spain worked out amazing serves and
counterattacked the Argentinean side. They made successful tries but trailed behind Argentina’s score. Gustavo Scholtis hit swift underhand shots and extended Argentina’s lead. Gradually, they pushed the score to finish line and ended the third set at 25-19.
Spain suffered the loss of another set and fell back.
Fourth Set
Spain struggled to stretch the game to another set by winning fourth set. Somehow, Argentina was in commanding position. They started heavy strike and turned the game in their favour. Spain put up good fight but Argentina diminished their chances by ending
the fourth set at 26-24. Argentina successfully outclassed Spain and claimed the match victory.
Facundo Conte was the top scorer in Argentinean squad. His hits contributed 17 points in 43 attack attempts. Likewise, Iban Perez of Spain scored 25 and supported his team in a great way.
