Argentina rallies past Canada in the Pan Am Cup, 3-1 – Volleyball News
Argentinean women secured a match against Canada on Thursday by sending 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-14) on board.
The Mexican city Ciudad Juarez provided the backdrop for this XI Pan Am Cup match, which continued for 1 hour and 48 minutes. Clad in No. 5 shirt Lucia Fresco played an instrumental role Argentina’s success. She notched up 23 spikes, two blocks, and two
serve aces. Overall, she was credited for match-high 27 points. For Canada, Shanice Marcelle emerged the top-scorer with 15 points.
Argentina kicked off the action with powerful serves by Lucia and Sosa. The two players formed a good combination and helped their team to earn an early lead. Meanwhile, the Canadian Pavan sisters hit back and added some nice shots. As the game progressed,
both teams rallied hard to go up on the scoreboard. Lucia Gaido, the Argentinean libero, did an amazing job at reception. She tackled difficult shots from the Canadians and saved many crucial points. Argentina gave a good competition to Canada, but could not
avoid the loss in first set.
After winning the first frame, Canada failed to carry the momentum in the second set. Raged-up Argentinean added a flurry of points and levelled the game score by posting 25-14.
The third and fourth sets also ended in Argentina’s favour, while Canada moved to 1-3 loss in the match.
The skipper of Canadian team Brittney Page commented: “Argentina played a good match all the way through, with good defensive plays and execution. The experience in the cup has been good for us to learn after using new and different players on the court.”
In response, Emilce Sosa of the Argentina stated: “We are glad for the victory. At the beginning of the match we felt some kind of pressure because this was the match we had to win and played to stop Sarah Pavan, who’s one of the best spikers of the world.”
The coaches of the both team also had their say about the match. Arnd Ludwig, the Canadian mentor regretted the loss, but appreciated the effort of his team. The winning Coach Horacio Bastit was totally satisfied with the brilliant act of his team.
In the next run, Argentina is set to collide with Puerto Rico on Friday. It will be final match for fifth position in the match. Considering the statistics of both teams, Argentina has better chance to win the next match. Lets’ wait and see which side proves
