Argentina thrashes America in Four Nations Women Field Hockey, 4-1(fixed headline)
The Women’s hockey team of Argentina – the world champions, thrashed
Argentina by three goals in the second match of the Four Nations Women Field Hockey Tournament, in Argentinean city of Rosario.
The women of Argentina delivered a wonderful performance in the first half and scored three goals while holding USA scoreless. The defending women of Argentina did not allow many chances for USA to score a goal.
In the second half, Argentina further extended the lead by obtaining a score while USA shot a goal in the last moments of the regulation time-period.
The challenge concluded with a 4-1 score as the women of Argentina walked away victorious, leaving the team of USA frustrated of their defeat in the second match.
Katie O’Donnell of USA received an injury on
the elbow when she took an arduous ball. However, she had not faced
a severe wound and joined her team after a tiny break.
With seven minutes into the first half, Argentina scored first goal of the match and put opponent, USA, under intense pressure. Soon after that another player of Argentina doubled the tally by hitting a flicking shot from top of the circle.
Kayla Bashore and Claire Laubach were awarded yellow cards at two separate points and sent out from the field, as the USA squad continued the game with only nine players. The USA defenders committed a foul and awarded Argentina a chance to score a goal,
which they didn’t miss.
Rachel Dawson during a penalty corner found herself alone before the posts at the start of the second half but her flicking hit went wide and failed to score a goal for USA.
Argentina obtained fourth goal of the day on
a fourth penalty shot and expanded the lead to four goals.
Paige Selenski through a flicking hit scored the only goal for USA in the last moments of the match but it could not save them from
a humiliating defeat.
Rachel Dawson, the player of USA while talking to the media said that they performed a mature game in the second half as compared to the first and held Argentina only for a single goal.
She stated, “In the first half we were a little lax on the details. In the second half we took care of things that we were able to control and that got us more in return.”
Lee Bodimeade, the head coach of USA field hockey team of women while speaking at the occasion said that they were not mentally prepared for the contest and faced issues in the first half.
He said, “I think mentally we weren’t prepared. We addressed our issues in the second half and had a good performance, but at that time it was too late.”
