Argentina vs. Uruguay – Half Time Report – Copa America 2011
The Argentineans were to face another test in the knock out stages of the South American competition. Sergio http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390 but they seemed to have improved with time.
On the other hand, the Uruguayans were to face the tournament’s favourites. It was the same story for the Uruguayans as they couldn’t really impress a lot despite having an outstanding attack of three players – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314
Diego Forlan.
Despite poor performances in the tournament, the match between these two sides was considered to be a “clash of the titans.”
Sergio Batista played the same side which he featured against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-Rica-c2877 while there were a few changes made in the Uruguayan team.
Sergio Romero played between the two sticks and served as a goalkeeper for the Argentinean team. Romero was aided by four defenders. While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Zanetti-c18096 played
in the left back position. The centre back partnership between Nicolas Burdisso and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Milito-c14321 was not broken and they played in their positions.
The midfield featured three players only. While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Gago-c13652 played in the centre midfield role. Angel Di Maria’s role was mostly an attacking one. He featured as a left attacking midfielder and
often made runs on the left wing which allowed him to operate as a left winger.
Lionel Messi’s role was the same as it was in the previous game. He featured right behind the two strikers and his role was to feed the ball to them.
While Messi played in the role of a shadow striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain played in the centre forward role. Sergio Aguero played as a left striker while Gonzalo Higuain featured as a right striker.
Uruguay played the same formation as they did against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mexico-c2956 – a traditional 4-4-2. While Muslera played in between the two sticks as a goalkeeper, he was assisted by four defenders. Pereira featured as a right full back while Caceres played in the left
back role. The centre back positions were taken by Lugano and Victorino.
Pereira played on the left wing while Gonzalez featured on the right wing in a four man midfield. Arevalo and Perez were the players who featured in the heart of the pitch.
The two favourite strikers – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Forlan and Luis Suarez played up front for the Uruguayans.
The first half was quite eventful; especially for the Uruguayan midfielder Perez.
The Argentineans were all on the attack as the first half kicked off. It took Sergio Aguero only three minutes to create the first goal scoring opportunity of the game. The Argentinean striker got past three defenders and gave a cut back pass to Gonzalo
Higuain. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid striker took his shot on goal but it was deflected.
It was during the sixth minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Romero-c33100 kicked it out
and the deflected shot was tapped in by Perez – the person who received a yellow card moments into the game.
During the 15th minute Sergio Aguero got past a few Uruguayan defenders but couldn’t really get his shot on goal and it was easily handled by Muslera.
It was during the 18th minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 evaded a few tackles in the midfield and gave an inch perfect through ball to Gonzalo Higuain who found the back of the net with his head.
There were two disallowed goals – one from Gonzalo Higuain which was waved offside and one from Caceres which was also waved offside.
Perez received a second yellow card after blocking off Gago and the Uruguayans were reduced to ten men before half time.
The first half was simply phenomenal and both the teams looked deadly in the final third. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 would leave satisfied after their first half performance as they are at a man’s advantage on the pitch as the second half will kick off.
