Argentina wins over Tunisia on second day of FIVB Men´s Junior World Championship
The second match of Tuesday, August 2nd in the FIVB Men´s Junior World Championship took place between Argentina and Tunisia at the Caio Martins Gymnasium in Niteroi, Brazil. The dat two match ended with the Argentineans making a clean sweep over
their opponents, 3-0.
Despite the fact that they lost the match, Tunisia did not go down without putting up a good fight. The first set of the match was a relatively easy win for the Argentineans but the Tunisians put up quite a performance in the second set of the game. Even
though Argentina prevailed in winning the second set, the Tunisians were charged up in the third set and made it difficult for the Argentineans to win the match at the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-23 and 25-22.
The Argentinean coach, Juan Manuel Cichello, made the following comment after the match had ended: “We are happy to be on the next round with the top group, despite all the problems our attack had. We have to keep working because the second round will be
more difficult."
On the other hand, the Tunisian coach, Mohamed Mounir Gara, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference that was held after the match, “We played better than yesterday, but still made some mistakes. That made us lose. The third set was
when we had less errors. Our captain had a problem in his shoulder. We will train more for the next matches."
The first set saw the Argentineans take the lead at 6-1 which they were able to extend to 13-8. The Tunisians were able to close in the gap at 14-12 but Argentina prevailed in keeping the lead with them at 19-16. The Tunisian team tried hard to keep up with
the Argentineans but they could not significantly restrict Argentina and it went on to win the opening set of the game at 25-17.
Losing the first set of the game did not sit well with the Tunisians and they came charging in the second set. By the time the first technical time out was reached, the Tunisians had the lead at 8-5. However, Argentina did not give up and tied the match
at 8-8. The Tunisian team was determined to keep control with themselves and charged once more to take the lead at 13-9. As the match reached the final stages, the score was still tied at 20-20 but Argentina prevailed in winning the second set at 25-23.
The third set took on an intense tone with Tunisia leading at 18-16 but Argentina tied it at 19-19 and eventually sealed the deal at 25-22.
Next in line for the Argentinean team is a match with the Spanish squad while the Tunisians will be playing Puerto Rico in Pool B fixtures.
