Argentina’s Luciana Aymar included in national squad for 2011 FIH Champions Trophy
Luciana Aymar, the renowned aggressive mid-fielder from Argentina has been recalled in Argentina’s national squad for the upcoming Rabo FIH Champions Trophy which will be held in June 2011 at the momentous Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The tournament will set off on June 25 and final will be played on July 3.
The reigning FIH 'World Player of the Year', Aymar, who has already enjoyed the same prestige six times before, is making her comeback to national side after a long break. Last time she represented her country in the BDO FIH World Cup at her home soil
and led her team, Las Leonas, to victory by showing her world class skills.
Although some of the very seasoned and experienced players like Mariana Rossi, Alejandra Gulla, Marine Russo, Claudia Burkart and Romina Vatteone have announced their retirement after the world cup success, yet the inclusion of sparkling mid-fielder
Luciana, commonly known as La Maga (The Magician), will be a morale booster for rest of the team. The Argentina’s squad for the Women’s Champion Trophy seems to be a blend of youth and experience, as it still consists of several world cup winner players.
The coach of Argentina’s national women hockey team, Carlos Retegui shared his comments in an interview on the retirement of such key players and their alternatives. Carlos stated that those five players are unique and match-less, however we have a
lot of good young guns who can also achieve that unmatched and consummate level. He also said that they will become able to produce a talented team as they have a lot of potential in them.
On a question regarding the goals and dreams of the team, the coach Carlos answered as, “Now we dream about playing like Barcelona in football, and the national team can do it. They did it in the World Cup at times. When we started two years ago, our
mission was to be the best team of all time. During this time we have won everything but we have to work harder. The good thing is that there is constantly more desire and energy. I hope that this desire to achieve more will be maintained.”
Prior to Champions Trophy, the Argentine side will participate in a four-nation tournament along with Australia, Korea and Germany, which is going to be played in Berlin, Germany from June 16-19.
Meanwhile, in the FIH Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament eight teams, Argentina, Australia, China, England, Germany, Korea, Netherlands and New Zealand, will look in a great action for the battle of the Champions title.
