Argentina’s Sergio Batista not overly concerned by loss
Interim Argentina coach Sergio Batista stated that he is not worried after Argentina were defeated 1-0 by Japan.
It was Argentina’s first loss under Batista since he took over the role from Diego Maradona. The shock loss was not something that Batista felt would end his chances of becoming the manager of Argentina
on a permanent basis.
Batista said, "I don't believe that I will be judged by one result, just like I didn't ask after beating Spain and Ireland that they judge me on those games. My continuity does not depend on this game,
you can win or lose, but nothing was hanging on this result.”
“I don't like to say it, but if I am judged on the results I am 2-1 up," added the Argentine manager.
Batista has made it clear that he would like to be appointed as the manager on a full time basis. However, he feels that he will be appointed on not only his results, but with the work he puts in.
Batista said, "I want to be chosen for the work I am doing, not for the wins."
On the other hand he said his team's passing could stand to improve, suggesting there is still work to do. Japan was able to take advantage of a few passing errors by Batista's squad, and Batista was quick
to praise the Blue Samurai's efforts.
The manager added, “It had something to do with the tiredness of the players which could be noticed. After, we started to see a more long-ball team which is not what we wanted."
Batista finished his career in Japan and he admitted that was impressed by how the game is constantly improving in the country.
However, Argentina will not be happy with the loss after Batista started the job so well. Argentina will have to improve if Batista is to remain in charge on a permanent basis.
