Argentina’s Volleyball Federation holds special event for national team – Volleyball news
The Argentine Federation of Volleyball organised a special event for team on Wednesday, May 19 at Four Seasons Hotel in Buenos Aires.
All the team members and other officiating staff gathered for the special assembly before the start of the 2011 FIVB World League. Team Argentina will be playing in the FIVB World League next week as the championship is scheduled to start on May 27, 2011.
A total of 16 men’s volleyball squads will join the action, while Argentina is also one of participants.
At the event, the team was introduced to local and national media. The head coach of the team, Javier Weber briefed media about the preparations and game plan for the upcoming international event. Different types of questions were raised regarding the team
line and fixtures. Weber talked about various aspects of the game and assured that his team will bring honour to the country.
The South American team has been placed in the Pool C of the 2011 FIVB World League. Teams from Serbia, Finland and Portugal are also in the same pool. In the first leg of the preliminary round, Argentina will have tough competition with Serbian team.
Serbs, who finished third in the previous edition of the championship, are fully prepared to demonstrate a stellar performance. On the other hand, Argentina settled for 5th
position in the 2010 FIVB World League.
Overall, Serbia has better record against Argentina. The two sides have met 17 times in total. Out of those, Serbia has pulled off success in 13 matches. Argentina was last featured against Serbia in the Final Round of the 2010 FIVB World League. The Argentinean
team could not perform up to the mark and gave way to Serbian victory. Considering all these factors and previous history of the game, it will be great challenge for Argentina to dismantle the strong Serbs.
However, the other two pool members do not post any threat to Argentinean Team. Finland has an average team, which finished in 13th slot last year. Argentina will easily be able to dominate them. Likewise, the Portuguese will enter the FIVB World after a
long break. Argentinean team is always better than the underdogs Portugal.
Argentina has undergone extensive training and practice for the World League competition. This is the final week of preparations and it is expected that team will display a good performance. The recently held event was organised to encourage the team for
better display of volleyball.
