Argentine Open: La Aguada BMW beats Alegria Air France
Contrary to expectations, La Aguada BMW once again proved critics wrong by defeating Alegria Air France 15-12 in the quarterfinal match of the 117th Argentine Open Polo Championship Bicentennial Movistar (117th  Campeonato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario
Movistar) and qualified for the semi-final round of the event.
With the win in the quarterfinal, La Aguada BMW succeeded to dominate the group as previously it overpowered Indios Chapaleufu II Cardon with heavy margin of 20-10. The victory with high-score increased the confidence level of La Aguada and they delivered
brilliant performance too against Alegria Air France.
The victory against Alegria surely raises the hopes of La Aguada BMW to set a place in the final of the Argentine Open Polo Championship.
La Aguada the family foursome, which was comprised of Javier Novillo Astrada (9), Eduardo Novillo Astrada J. (9) Miguel Novillo Astrada (10) and Ignacio Novillo Astrada (9) delivered outstanding performance and made victory possible. They displayed mature
game in the quarterfinal and beat Alegria Air France after a hard competition.
The Alegria Air France team has been ousted from the tournament for the Triple Crown of Polo. The Alegria’s foursome was consisted of Frederick Mannix Jr. (7), Francisco Bensadon (8), Mariano Aguerre (10) and Francisco De Narvaez Jr. (9).
The 117th Argentina Open Polo Championship the English translation of Spanish name ‘117th Campeonato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario Movistar’ is an oldest interclub polo competition in the world. The tournament was firstly
started in 1893 at the Catedral Del Polo in Palermo.
Eight teams are taking part in the 117th edition of Argentina Polo Championship: Sao Jose Audi 30, Pilara Piaget 33, Alegria 34, Indios Chapaleufu II 34, Chapa Uno 35, La Aguada 37, La Dolfina 39 and Ellerstina 40.
The start of the game was very sluggish as both the teams Alegria Air France and La Aguada displayed defensive game. In the second chukker of the game, Alegria’s Francisco Bensadon and Francisco De Narvaez accomplished numerous attacks and increased the
pressure on La Aguada.
After the second frame, the both squads started aggressive game, but it was Alegria that topped the scoreboard by the end of the first half of the match.
The La Aguada foursome though marked several goals, but they were not performing as well as they usually does, missing lengthy and fertile shots.
The match was tied up at 7-7 when Francisco De Narvaez upped the lead of Alegria by one goal by scoring a goal in the last seconds of the first half. The both foursomes entered the second-half with 8-7 score.
It seems that the short-break between the first and the second half was a blessing for the La Aguada team as it accounted for five consecutive goals in the fifth chukker 12-8, putting rival Algeria under pressure.
Two legendary performers of La Aguada, Ignacio Novillo Astrada and Miguel Novillo Astrada showed brilliant game and marked back to back goals against Alegria. Ignacio Novillo converted two penalty shots into successful goals while Miguel Novillo scored three
goals from the field and put their foursome in way to success.
Alegria’s Francisco and Mariano marked four goals in the final chukker and tried to save their foursome from defeat but three more goals of Eduardo, Miguel and Ignacio ruined their desires.
La Aguada will face Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra in the semi-finals of the Argentina Open Polo Championship at Palermo on December 4th. The La Aguada foursome will have to concentrate and improve its performance as rival Ellerrstina is an unbeaten team of the
tournament. The one which will deliver better performance will get a slot in the final of the historic tournament.
