  1. Yes apparently puffpuff thinks tegus are aquatic. Beware of advice given by pet store employees!

Tegus are not difficult to keep. They are very active and need lots of space. Research thoroughly before you get one.

With lots of handling, they MIGHT become tame. Unfortunately, the tegus I've owned have all been savages. And they bite very hard. I doubt I will ever get another, although the red tegus are kind of neat.

  2. You might want to ask this on the Tegu forum....excellent site!

  3. if properly prepared for a large lizard, argentine tegus make excellent captives for a NOVICE keeper. do you research and you should have no problems. to be honest they are not much harder than your beardies but,  they do have some different requirements then them (some much different) but other than space for a tegu, none are too hard to meet. get a good book , and talk to some breeders like agama international (just google it) before you make your purchase. good luck.

p.s. if you do get a tegu , you will need that adult enclosure sooner, rather than later. they grow FAST!

p.p.s. WOW! i cant believe what that "puff puff" person just said!  you are totally clueless! what ever pet shop you work in must be horrible!

  4. If I had the room for another large lizard I would get one. They are heavy bodied compared to monitors, but some can be "tamer". I always thought the blue, red, or gold ones were pretty cool. I think that the black and white are more "mainstreamed".  The link I gave you is for  a list of books on the care of monitors and tegus, I own the second one listed and it's a great guide. Good luck.

  5. their okay, but some aren't very nice, if you get one, you need to find one that is nice to you. And make sure to get a tank that you can put water throughout the whole bottom of the cage, and then have floating rocks and things for them to get on and hide from the water, and put fake leaves on the rocks for them to hide in. they like that. but they aren't that hard to take care of, and you should have a heat pad on the outside of the tank somewhere, preferably on the bottom.  and you could feed them little guppy things and such.
