Argentinean Men’s Hockey Team Coach Pablo Lombi not satisfied with the results but with the game
Pablo Lombi, the coach of the Argentinean field hockey team, is not pleased with the two-match series against France that ended in draws. However, he said that they would continue their preparations for the Pan American Games to be held in Mexico in August
2011.
The coach, while speaking to the media, said that the home team was quite balanced, but they should have emerged victorious by a single goal margin. Analysing the games, he was of the opinion that they were very poor on defence and could not cope with pace
of the game.
The first match of the two-game series concluded at a 2-2 draw in which Lucas Cammareri and Matias Paredes set the pace for the Argentina team with one goal each. The second game of the series also ended with a 3-3 draw. In the second contest, Juan Martin
Lopez, Lucas Cammareri and Ignacio Bergner scored one goal apiece.
Commenting on the results of the series, the coach stated that they (Argentina) had found plenty of chances, but failed to capitalise them. Rejecting the impression of disappointment, he said that they would have to work hard to deliver in the upcoming mega
events.
While replying to a query, the coach underlined that the squad was unproductive on defence and ball possession. The team was also not noteworthy on attack and missed loads of chances in the two matches.
Lombi said that thought they improved their game a lot, but they should have to play well and win the matches against a bit high-profile team. Apart from some missing areas, the team also demonstrated some positive signs, including stamina of the players
and passing techniques.
He stated, “I saw it. We had many situations against. There were more errors in the attack, which the defence problems. On the defensive, I think the referees helped much shorter charging. In the last game that we won and we had everything under control,
we end up taking a short and then a penalty virtually nonexistent.”
Applauding the facilities at the INSEP Hockey Centre Paris, he said that there were idyllic training conditions in the host country and they should construct a similar arena in Argentina. The welcoming treatment they received from the host country particularly
the France Federation Hockey was remarkable, the coach added saying that they had not received similar salutation neither in Belgium nor in Australia.
He stressed that they would continue their practice and will prepare themselves for the upcoming Pan American Games which are scheduled to be held from October 14 to 30. For the mega event, they are pondering over to start a double-shift training programme.
