Argentinean Velasco takes over the charge of Iranian team – Volleyball news
Argentinean Julio Velasco officially joined the Men’s National Volleyball Team of Iran on Wednesday, April 6.
He will be working as the new head coach of Iran’s national team. The Iranian Volleyball Federation announced Velasco as the head coach of national team almost a month ago, while the coach arrived in Tehran on Wednesday and took over the charge of his position.
He has replaced the former coach Hossein Madani, who was laid off on account of unsatisfactory performance of team recently.
The 59-year-old, Julio Velasco is known as one of the most successful coaches of volleyball. He has vast experience of coaching different team over the past three decades. He started his career as an assistant coach at the Argentinean Men’s National Team
in 1981.
He sharpened his skills in the shoes of assistant coach and completed tenure of two years. After that, he moved to Italy and served as head coach at the Tre Valli Jesi and Pallavolo Modena, respectively.
The big boom of his career came when he joined Italy’s National Volleyball team in 1996. In the very first year under his lead, the Italian squad sparkled on the horizon and captured a gold medal.
Velasco should really be credited for putting the Italian team on winning track and entering them in the “gold generation.” Afterwards, he joined the Italian women’s team and enabled them to settle for gold-ware in 1997.
In 2001, Velasco was also hired by Czech Republic Team. The last job he pulled out was in Spain, where he headed the men’s national volleyball team from 2008-2011. The experienced coach is now in command of Iranian Men’s National Team and has the primary
task to put them on the right path. Velasco is believed to have the potential to turn any team from c**p to gold.
The coaching of Iranian will be the real test of Velasco’s abilities. The Iranian players are excited to work with the new coach and they have showed intent to benefit from his experience.
Velasco expressed his views about the Iranian team. He stated, “I’ve seen Iran games and know most of the players. However, it’s not enough and I will have to watch league games to get more information about the Iranian players.”
