Argentinean coach Javier Weber preparing for FIVB World League – Volleyball news
The mentor of the Men’s National Volleyball Team of Argentina, Javier Weber, has once again given a clear statement to media that his team will be putting mind, body and soul in the upcoming 2011 FIVB World League. He shared his thoughts with local media
on Monday, May 24.
Speaking of the goals and objective of his team, he said, “Even though our main goal is Olympic qualification, the FIVB World League is a great challenge each season.”
Javier Weber is leading his team to the 2011 FIVB World League, which is set to start off on Friday, May 27. The team in the ‘navy blue and white’ outfits will be on board among the sixteen best teams of the world, which will participate in the men’s elite
volleyball competition. Argentinean squad has gone through extensive training and preparation for the big competition. Currently, the team is giving the final touches to their training as 2011 FIVB World League is just around the corner.
Team Argentina is grouped with teams from Serbia, Portugal and Finland in Pool C. They will travel to the town of Rosario, which is the largest community in the Argentinean province of Santa Fe. Argentina will have their first encounter with last year’s
bronze medallist, Serbia. The two teams will step onto the courts on Saturday, May 28. The famous Newell’s Stadium in Rosario will host the much awaited opening match of the tournament.
Volleyball Federation of Argentina is still busy selling tickets for the thrilling match. The home team is expected to get a huge emotional support from local volleyball enthusiasts. The match will surely attract scores of fans to the competition hall.
In the first leg of the preliminary round-robin, Argentina and Serbia will be featured in two matches on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Serbs are considered a very dangerous team as they have a mixed bag of young and experienced players. They are currently
enjoying top form and will certainly give Argentina a hard time.
Overall, Serbia has a better record against Argentina. In the previous 17 meetings of these two teams, Serbia has been successful in 13 matches. Last time, they played each other in the final round of the 2010 FIVB World League. After a great fight, Serbia
won the match and pushed Argentina behind. This year, this is going to be another heated competition between the two teams.
The Argentinean coach is confident about his team and their preparation. He said, “To play against Serbia on our debut, when we are searching for our best game is very important and can tell us our real level at international standard.”
Fans will be waiting to see which side proves to be better in the attack and defence at centre court.
