Question:

Arguing about Hockey.?

I was just at the mall today with my best friend and her boyfriend.

Her boyfriend was talking to me about hockey and he was arguing with me about Georges Laraque. He goes "I love Laraque." meanwhile, we were talking about CURRENT players on the team. So i tell him "Uh, too bad he's not on the team anymore."

He starts bickering with me about how he knows that Laraque is still on the team and how the pens would never give him up...

My question to you is: what do you do when people (knowledgeable of hockey or not) start arguing with you about something you know for certain.

  1. I argue non-stop. It's a horrible habit......or maybe it's just my personality.

If it's someone I know who is a band wagon I usually just yell something along the lines of 'shut the h**l up. I know more about the sport than you.'

If I end up start arguing about something hockey related with my dad or his friend I just sound stupid. My dad and his friend have way more hockey knowledge than me, lol. It actually gets comical sometimes.

  2. As some of you might be able to tell I LOVE arguing with people.Even if I don't even believe what I'm saying. That's right..Lindros was better then Forsberg.LOL

I can tell right away if I'm arguing with someone and they know there stuff. If he does then I stay serious and stick to the argument BUT if I feel he doesn't know anything I might start bringing up players from other teams or Flyers from the 80s and see if he thought he had a good player the previous game. You should try it its fun.."C'mon Ron Sutter won most of his faceoffs last night how can he not be Captain?"Stuff like that.It confuses the h**l out of them and the people around that do know there stuff always wind up laughing.Even if they came with that fool.

ALSO-Another trick-If they start yelling or throwing the F bomb around that means you're winning the argument.

  3. Usually I say I'm willing to bet my life on it and I would stand in front of a moving train if I was wrong. Then I'd ask then to take on the same bet if they're wrong.

But remember, you have to KNOW you're correct. lol

  4. Same things I would say/do with anyone who is only interested in the so called truth they want to hear on any topic, tell'em they don't have a clue and walk away. People like your friends BF are pretty mentally unstable if they cannot accept the truth as it.

Note I bet if You told him the truth about  Laraque he would probaby block you.

  5. just tell him who gives a **** the pens gargle my balls

  6. umm....laraque is on the pens right now

    and hes awsome :)

anywayz, i usually slap them :)

  7. My solution to this is easy.  Turn away, go to the bar, and drink until you don't recognize them anymore.

  8. bet a lot of money if youre positive youre right, there are two outcomes

    1.  he believes you

    2. you win 50 bucks and then he believes you

  9. Oh man, this is just like my friend.  He always thinks he's right about everything, even though he's not half the time.  If I've exhausted myself by trying to explain something to the other person, I just give in sarcasistically like..."Yeah, sure, you're sooo right."  That usually satisfies the other person.  Or if I'm in a particular mood, I'll bet on it.  Not for any money, just bragging rights.  People who always think they're right like to bet.  Haha.  And I usually win :)

  10. Bet money on it, then when they're paying up rub it in their face and ask what I should buy with their money. =)

  11. I make sure i know its true and then bet them. Then i will fight to the death. It makes the other person look like a total loser!!!!

  12. I just maybe the most non-argumentative person you ever met.  It becomes easier for me to argue on here, because I can't see you guys, but in real life....I really pick and choose my battles.

If somebody wanted to argue the Gretzky never played for LA, I would say, "Calm down man, if you want to believe that, then fine."

Some arguments are not worth it.

  13. After you've said, "He's not on the Penguins anymore.  I assure you", there's really nothing more to say after that.  You know the truth.  Sounds like he was way out of line his his rebuttal.  I say you do everything you can to save your friend and break up that relationship.  I'm 100% serious.  The guy sound like a real douche bag.

  14. Just tell them again that you are right... tell them how that you know this for certain... and if they still insist on being a jack *** about this then just let it drop.  You have better things to do then waste time on a moronic sports bully.  Believe me, he will know what an *** he looked like when he finds out the truth.

You can always bet him on this but I can tell you that a idiot like this will welch... I mean seriously, no hockey gm would build a team around Laraque or keep the guy if they want to try something different.  Laraque has some great assets but he is not incredible or individually creative.  This guy sounds like a total fan with a crush on a player... these people take this stuff personally and never pay on their bets.

  15. Arguing with smart people is fun, I hate arguing with stupid people, though. I had a girlfriend who would turn an argument around so bad you'd forget what you said. If today's argument was "every blue car has a muffler", tomorrow's argument would be "well you said every car with a muffler is blue, that car has a muffler and it's not blue". How do you win?

The problem is, a week from now he'll find out you were right and say "I told you so !!"

  16. I try to just let them have their way and then totally shove it in their face when they're proven wrong.  Generally, I lose my patience with their ignorant arrogance and yell at them, and then I can't even enjoy my triumph.
