Argumentive essay: Same s*x marriages.?

So i need some help. I'm doing as essay on same s*x marriages and why i think it should be allowed everywhere. Any suggestions on how i should start it?

Yes.

Point 1: the people who oppose same-s*x marriage say that marriage is sacred.  If they're right, then our government should have nothing to do with marriage; not only would it be a violation of church and state, but our government tends to profane those sacred things it meddles in.

Point 2: if the state is going to sponsor marriage, it should be done on the basis of benefit to society.  Do heterosexual marriages benefit society, and how?  We might come up with a list of benefits, including:

--a defined "point person" to direct medical care when the partner is unable.

--simplified rules for inheritance.

--personal financial stability, especially when sharing one partner's health insurance.

--legal protections for both partners.

--demonstrated health benefits from enduring partnerships.

--greater stability for raising children.

OK, so do any of these benefits accrue to same-s*x marriages?  Yes, they all do (remembering that homosexuals are permitted to adopt children).  Therefore, the state should sponsor same-s*x marriages so that we all will benefit even more.

If the anti-same-s*x-marriage side wants to deny those practical benefits, then the logical conclusion is that the state should not license ANY marriages, and should instead allow churches to sponsor whatever formalized unions they wish to recognize.
