Question:

Ariens Lawn Mower Oil problem

Ok, I did a stupid thing. I turned my mower on the side to try to clean underneath. It took a bit to get it started, but it ran. I noticed that it was now pushing oil up through the filler tube. I have read the other questions and answers. It appears that I got oil in the cylinder. This I understand, but I don't understand why the oil was pushing up through the filler valve. Should I junk it or try to fix it. It ran fine and I like the mower.

  1. You need to take a look at the air filter and air box.  The crankcase vent goes into the air box.  If that vent line is full of oil it won't vent the crankcase.  I would remove the air filter and locate the vent line and maybe blow some air through it.  It is recommended that if you tip the mower on it's side do it with the air filter side up.
