Ariete Arrollador and Verde Mar the most influential on the lineup of the Jaguar XJ Trophy Handicap on 16th February
Meydan will host the Jaguar XJ Trophy Handicap on Thursday, 16th February in which fourteen horses will race for getting entitled to the £46,452 prize money, which is to be presented to the contestant who is successful in racing through the wire
first.
Ariete Arrollador is Kingsalsa’s five-year-old bay horse out of Proud Douna, and is under training Arizkorreta Elosegui. He has not gone below the third place in the last nine starts that he has made out of the ten career races till now.
During the 2011 season, Ariete Arrollador has been successful in four races out of the seven that he participated in.
He won the Prix Du Mesnil Auger, a claimer race on 10th March at Deauville. Grand Lucius was the 9/2 favourite for the race set for fifteen to compete. On 31st July, he took away the Prix Des Collectivites Locales Handicap at Deauville.
The six and a half furlong field was thundered on by sixteen battling for the wire.
Ariete Arrollador’s next start was on 18th September at La Zarzuela in the Premio Loterias De Estado for which he was the 4/5 favourite. After coming second in the Gran Premio De La Hispanidad on 9th October, Ariete Arrollador won the
Prix Luthier on 8th December. He won on a track invaded by sixteen contenders with 3/1 favourite Surfrider who finished tenth.
He has not posted his seasonal debut victory as yet because he scored second in both his starts. He was the runner up in the Etisalat My Plan Handicap on 12th January that had Red Gulch as the 9/4 favourite.
Ariete Arrollador’s most recent attempt in the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Handicap had him qualifying as the runner up in the race that he entered as the 5/2 favourite.
The Jaguar XJ Trophy Handicap on 16th February would be his third start during the new season.
Another very capable contestant on the field is the five-year-old Verde Mar who has been unbeaten in his last three starts and has not raced since 14th August 2011. He was the 10/11 favourite the last time he raced and won the Zawawi Cup at Jagersro.
Verde Mar will be racing his seasonal debut and if he will take up the chance of extending his winning streak to four, is yet to be seen.
