Ariya Jutanugarn wins Lalla Aicha Tour School, LET card for 2013
Thai Ariya Jutanugarn shot a 69 in the final round of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, winning the tournament by five strokes and her LET (Ladies European Tour) membership for the 2013 season.
Jutanugarn maintained an iron grip on the match from the start of third round that saw her shoot an explosive 64 on Saturday. Shooting a big score in the round quickly put her in contention against first and second round leaders.
Australian Nikki Campbell and English amateur Emily Taylor got into a nerve-shattering battle against Jutanugarn. Both contenders posted an overall 341 each to share the second position.
The last round saw the young gun in a more refined form, although she made several shots that could have been avoided.
Starting off on the front nine, Jutanugarn parred the first hole and launched a birdie on the par-4 second.
She could not judge the ball well on the greens of par-4 5th, carding a double bogey.
The impact of double bogey, despite so much pressure due to her lead in the preceding round, was summarily offset after the Thai star reeled off two straight birdies on the difficult par-3 6th and 7th hole.
On the back nine, Jutanugarn displayed almost the same performance as the front nine, posting three birdies and one bogey. She bogeyed the 10th and slapped another two back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th.
Expressing her pleasure over her triumph while speaking to the media at the end of the tournament on Monday, the Thai golfer said that her performance was solid in the third and fourth round.
She said that she could have done much better on the last day, but made slip-ups both on the front and back nine.
“Today I didn’t play very good and I missed some putts. My irons were not very good today, but I’m still happy because the two weeks were very good,” said Jutanugarn who capped off her junior season by clinching her second straight title at the AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year.
“I’m going to miss her a lot because we have to separate. I have to go with my dad and Moriya will go with my mom”.
