Ariza: Floyd Mayweather fight will never happen if Manny Pacquiao loses to Marquez – Boxing news
Alex Ariza, who is the conditioning trainer of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and the currently unified WBA Super and IBF Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan, believes a super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will go away,
if the Filipino star loses to Juan Manuel Marquez in their fourth fight.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, who is the current World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion), recently secured a controversial 12-round majority decision over the Mexican in their highly anticipated trilogy bout
at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao was a red-hot favourite against Marquez but with the way their fight ended many out there have started thinking that Pacquiao perhaps cannot beat the undefeated American legend, Mayweather.
Therefore, Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, is now trying to set up a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez even when a dream-fight with Mayweather can be finally made.
However, Ariza sees no benefit in setting up Pacquiao-Marquez for a fourth time. Ariza told the media people have already developed a lot of doubts in their minds after seeing Pacquiao’s last performance and if somehow Pacquiao loses to Marquez in their
fourth fight the Mayweather fight will go away forever.
Thus, Ariza wants Arum to set up Mayweather-Pacquiao clash first as he thinks Pacquiao-Marquez is not going to go away in any case.
Ariza told Fighthype.com, “Freddie has been very vocal about Manny wanting to fight Floyd because Freddie is about wanting the best for his fighter. If Manny wants to fight Floyd and if he fights Floyd, and hypothetically he loses to Floyd, the Marquez fight
is still there. If Manny fights Marquez and he loses to Marquez, the Floyd fight is gone. So how can you tell me as a promoter that the best thing to do is to fight f*****g Marquez again? I mean, Freddie’s obviously been in the fight game all his life and
he knows that the best thing for Manny is to fight Floyd, so what the f**k is the problem?”
Ariza certainly has a pretty good logic and all that is left to see is weather Arum will take a notice of it or not.
