Arizona Cardinals’ general manager, Rod Graves, has appreciated the role of his scouts, player personnel staff and coaches while saying that he is proud of all of them for their services to the team.
Graves’ remarks came in the light of promotion Steve Keim has received recently. He was serving the franchise as the director of player personnel and after the promotion he will now serve take charge of the responsibilities of Cardinals’ vice president of
player personnel.
Keim’s previous position is taken by Jason Licht, who has already served the Cards before.
Graves admired the role of Keim and other personnel working under him and specifically mentioned the role they play before drafts.
Graves was of the view that the role of player personnel staff is very crucial in terms of developing a team that could win the National Football League (NFL) title.
Keim joined Cardinals in 1999 as a regional scout. He continued to serve the franchise as per his best potential and was appointed as director of college scouting in 2006. He was appointed as the director of player personnel in 2008.
On the other hand, Licht, who has replaced Keim, spent the last three years with New England Patriots as their director of pro personnel.
Graves thinks that Keim’s promotion and Licht’s return to the franchise will help its goal of becoming a great team.
He said:
“The personnel staff and player evaluation process are critical to assembling a championship-calibre football team. I’m proud of the work our scouts, coaches and personnel staff have done up to this point and I’m excited about these two moves today. Steve
and Jason are exceptional NFL personnel men with proven track records and their expertise makes us a better organisation.”
Meanwhile, Keim has thanked Cardinals’ president, Michael Bidwill, the general manager and head coach, Ken Whisenhunt, for their support throughout his career with the team.
While referring to his recent promotion, Keim said that it reflects the confidence of management in his abilities and talent. Keim commented:
“It says something about the organization and the faith Michael (Bidwill), Rod and Coach (Ken Whisenhunt) have in me. It’s an honour to work here.”
