Arizona Cardinals’ RB Beanie Wells focused on return during training camp – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals’ running back, Beanie Wells, who is still rehabbing from a knee surgery he underwent earlier this year, might miss the organised team activities (OTAs) this offseason as he hopes to join the squad back in the training camp this July before
the start of the preseason games.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Wells’ rehab might take some more time and the player does not want to take any risk by stepping on the field without being hundred percent fit.
When asked about participating in the OTAs, he said:
“I am hopeful, but it’s offseason stuff. Being ready for training camp is the most important thing.”
Wells started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with the Cards in 2009. His performance has been brilliant right from the start, but he was ever more impressive during the last season.
The running back played and started 14 games in the 2011 season in which he rushed for a total of 1,047 yards on 245 attempts. He also scored 10 touchdowns.
During the season, he also registered the team’s single-game and personal record against the St. Louis Rams.
In that game, Wells rushed for 228 yards, beating the franchise’s record of 214 yards that had been set up by LeShon Johnson against the New Orleans Saints back in 1996.
During the season, his knee also got injured, but it was initially expected that a few months’ rest will allow him to recover from it.
However, Wells’ doctors advised him to have the surgery and he went under the knife in January.
He said of his current status:
“I’m rehabbing, just trying to get back.”
The team management has not given any official word around this development, but different reports have suggested that the Cards also want to provide as much recovery time to the player as he needs so he could give his best shot during the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, the Cards have not yet announced their training camp schedule completely, but some details present on the team’s website claim that the team will report to the training camp on 24th July and the first practice will take place the next
day.
