Arizona Cardinals beat Philadelphia Eagles 21-17 in Week 10 – NFL Recap
Arizona Cardinals defeated Philadelphia Eagles 21-17 in Sunday’s encounter at the Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia in Week 10 of the National Football League season.
Eagles took the lead nine minute in the second quarter. Asante Samuel intercepted a Cardinals pass 20 yards from the end zone and beat the Cardinals defence to score a touchdown. Alex Henery’s kick got the extra point with the
Eagles going up 7-0. The Cardinals equalized six minutes later with quarterback John Skelton passing to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald ten yards from the end zone to score the touchdown and a Jay Feely kick brought the teams level. The Eagles took the lead
back 17 seconds from the end of the second period as LeSean McCoy scored a touchdown for the ninth straight game breaking the team record to get the score 14-7 in the Eagles favour.
However, the visitors were not ready to give up and in the fourth quarter started their comeback as Skelton took control of the game. Almost ten minutes into the fourth period Skelton sent a seven yard pass to Fitzgerald who scored
the touchdown bringing the score level again at 14-14. Henery scored a 36 yard field goal at 5:06 to give the Eagles a three point lead. Skelton who had already provided two scoring passes during the encounter though had other ideas and his third 5 yard pass,
this time to Early Doucet at 1:53 turned out to be the winner with Doucet scoring the touchdown as the Cardinals won 21-17.
With quarter back Kevin Kolb unable to recover in time from a turf toe injury for the game against his former team, John Skelton started against the Eagles and it was his fine man of the match performance at Quarter Back as he
dictated the play that saw the Cardinals win and move up to 3-6 and third in the National Football Conference West Division. Skelton covered 315 yards during the game and completed 21 out of 40 attempted passes.
"It was a team win," Skelton said. "I put us down with a pick-six and late pick, but the defense bailed me out."
Larry Fitzgerald covered 146 yards and received 7 passes as he scored two touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to victory. When asked which of the two Quarter Backs he preferred the Wide Receiver was dismissive and said
"I don't like to compare," he said. "That's not fair. Both of them, we feel we can win with and that's a good problem to have."
Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt was equally dismissive of the comparison and just wanted to enjoy the win. Talking to the press, he said, "I'll have to look at the film. Kolb has done a good job for us this season. They've both
had some games get squirrelly on them, but we haven't won on the East Coast in forever, so I'm just going to enjoy this right now."
The visitors now move onto San Francisco where they will play the 49ers while Eagles go to New York to play the Giants.
