Arizona Cardinals’ general manager, Rod Graves, hints at Kevin Kolb’s safe future with the franchise
Arizona Cardinals’ general manager, Rod Graves, has hinted that the franchise’ quarterback, Kevin Kolb, who did not have a very ideal time in the recently concluded National Football League (NFL) season, might be the starter in the next season as well.
He shared these thoughts in an interview on Thursday, February 16, 2012.
Kolb only played nine games in the season and his performance was hampered by different injuries he dealt with throughout the season.
Even in the games he played, his performance was not up to the mark and his inaccuracy remained a cause of worry for the team.
Kolb signed a five-year deal with the Cards after joining them last year. He is also expected to get a $7 million bonus next month.
According to different reports, Cardinals are also looking to acquire veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, if he parts ways with Indianapolis Colts.
However, Kolb is not bothered by these speculations. Graves also said that he would proceed with the deal signed with Kolb. However, the general manager did not rule out any possibility of taking some bold steps.
He said:
"There's no reason to think at this particular point that we wouldn't proceed with ... seeing the contract through, but things change as we go down the road.”
Moreover, Cardinals’ coach, Ken Whisenhunt, has also said that he is satisfied with the available options at quarterback position.
Along with Kolb, the Cards have John Skelton, who got to start many games in the former’s absence.
However, Whisenhunt said that both the quarterbacks need to work really hard to improve their performance.
The coach said:
“We're in a heck of a lot better position at the quarterback position right now than we were a year ago today.”
He added:
“We've got two guys that we feel can play. They've shown at times that they can do things very well. They've shown at times, they're knuckleheads.”
Meanwhile, Graves also said that the Cardinals are going to keep defensive end, Calais Campbell, for the next season.
