Arizona Cardinals have no answer to their failures – NFL News
After starting their season on an incredible note by winning first four games, the Arizona Cardinals have slumped badly, recording their tale in the list of this season’s most disappointing stories.
After four straight wins, the Cards have got seven straight defeats, a record that cannot be justified.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said following their recent defeat against St. Louis Rams:
“There are a lot of reasons we have not played the way we wanted to play, especially over the last seven games.”
He added:
“Whenever you have change at any position there is always something that you lose and we have had a lot of turnover. We have had a lot of injuries, but nobody cares. They expect you to have success.”
The head coach continued:
“This is about winning. If you don’t win games, it’s tough.”
The Cards have made a few experiments at quarterback position, which is one of the many reasons for their failure this season. The Cards started the season with John Skelton, who had won the quarterback competition from Kevin Kolb during the offseason.
As luck would have it, Skelton was sidelined with an injury in the season opener and the Cards shifted to Kolb to take charge of the offence.
Kolb did well before sustaining the injury that is still bothering him. His departure allowed the Cards to bring in Skelton, who had recovered by then.
However, Skelton continued to disappoint the team and forced the management to start with rookie Ryan Lindley.
Lindley, too, could not lift the team out of the slump, but since he is in his first National Football League (NFL) season and got the chance to lead the offence after a couple of quarterbacks had failed, his below-par performance did not draw much criticism.
The Cards are currently placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West and as they prepare to take on New York Jets in Week 13 game, they are planning on keeping the rookie on the starting line.
The quarterback situation could get better if Kolb gets completely fit.
“Until he’s healthy, I don’t know where we are (at quarterback),” Whisenhunt commented.
