Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt responds to Willie McGinest remarks – NFL News
It has not yet been decided whether the Arizona Cardinals are going to start the 2012 season with quarterback Kevin Kolb or John Skelton, but the issue has developed into a bit of controversy now, especially after the remarks of a sport analyst Willie McGinest,
who claimed that the players are “gravitating” towards Skelton.
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is not very pleased with these remarks and he does not believe that there is any sort of favouritism in the camp.
Responding to McGinest’s remarks, Whisenhunt said:
"I have no perception whatever that that's going on. From what I've seen, standing in the huddle, which I don't believe he was in the huddle, the team's responded to both guys and feel like both guys can be successful for them.”
The coach added:
“So I don't put a whole lot of stock into that. If he's willing to say who it was or what they're talking about and what context, maybe it would be worthy of commenting."
A day earlier, McGinest said that he had talked to some of his buddies and gave an impression that the players were inclined more towards Skelton. He said of Skelton:
“He really doesn't have any pressure. He didn't get a huge contract like Kolb did and you know he's one of those guys that can command a huddle.”
Both Kolb and Skelton played as starter last season. Initially, it was Kolb who managed the role but he later got injured, allowing Skelton to take the responsibility.
Meanwhile, Cardinals star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has also supported the head coach’s opinion. He asserted that the players want the best quarterback to lead them, but maintained that they are not leaning towards anybody.
Kolb is more experienced than Skelton. He played four seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles and joined the Cards last year. As for Skelton, he has been playing for the Cards since starting his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2010.
With training camp around the corner, it is expected that the Cards will announce their starting quarterback shortly. This will also end a long uncertainty and the recent controversy as well.
