Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt seeks improvement in team’s performance – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals finally got their first defeat of the season on Thursday, October 04, 2012, after winning four games in a row, but the end to their winning streak might not haunt them as much as their performance in the losing game.
Cardinals struggled badly in generating scoring drives during the game. Since their defence is much better than offence, Cardinals tend to restrict their opponents from getting scoring opportunities, leaving the offence’s job relatively easy.
However, their Week 5 defeat did not represent their class as they were clueless throughout the game. They scored only one field goal in the entire game while their quarterback Kevin Kolb was sacked nine times.
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt could not do anything during the game, but watch his team getting outclassed by the divisional opponents.
The Cards are still leading National Football Conference (NFC) West and they still have a strong chance to qualify for the playoffs. However, they must overcome their flaws of the Rams’ game so as to be more productive during the rest of the season.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Whisenhunt said after the recent defeat:
“We got beat. We got beat on the edge a couple of times. We have to work on technique and our sets and do some things to help those guys out.”
Meanwhile, guard Daryn Colledge said:
“We have a lot of guys nicked up, we have a lot of guys that need to get healthy, we have a lot of film study to do, we have a lot of things to fix.”
He said of the recent defeat:
“Hopefully we use this as a springboard. I don’t know if we bought into our own hype or what, but we obviously weren’t ready to play tonight.”
Before the start of the season, even Cardinals would not have thought that they would defeat teams like Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins to win their first four games.
However, that does not mean that they achieved the feat through a stroke of luck. They played well and can keep on doing so in future if they do not allow one defeat to hurt their morale.
