Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt speaks of giving playing time to backup QB Ryan Lindley
Although quarterback John Skelton was selected over Kevin Kolb to start the 2012 season for the Arizona Cardinals, things have not gone the way the quarterback and the team had anticipated.
Skelton was injured in the season’s first game, which Cardinals managed to win after Kolb replaced the former.
When Skelton got fit, Kolb got an injury and was forced out of Week 6 game against Buffalo Bills. Skelton replaced him, but could not find his rhythm properly and the team lost the game.
Skelton started the next game in which Cardinals faced Minnesota Vikings and the result was not different. The quarterback’s prospects were further dented when Cardinals were defeated by San Francisco 49ers in Week 8.
In the four games Skelton has played this season, he has completed a total of 73 passes of 126 attempts for 746 yards, while scoring only one touchdown. Skelton has sent a total of four interceptions so far.
Skelton’s ever regressing record and Cardinals’ recent four-game losing streak prompted a lot of fans to call for introducing a new quarterback. Since Kolb is injured and Skelton is not performing well, Cardinals have an option of giving playing time to
rookie Ryan Lindley, who was selected as the 185th pick in the sixth round of this year’s draft.
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who admitted that the team has let fans down, has maintained that the team is going to continue with Skelton, for now. However, he has said that the rookie could get some playing time as well.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Whisenhunt said:
“I’m sure there are a lot of fans saying a lot of things because we’re all frustrated with where we are. I don’t know where the Lindley stuff is coming from (but) we’re going to continue to stay the course.”
The head coach added:
“The way our quarterback situation’s been going, probably Lindley will get a chance to play because it seems like we’ve had some issues there. But right now, we’re staying with John.”
Cardinals will play their next game against Green Bay Packers and Lindley might get some playing time in the game.
