Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt still tight-lipped over quarterback situation – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals have got off to a 3-0 start to a season after more than three decades and their quarterback Kevin Kolb has helped them in all these victories.
However, Kolb was not the first choice of the team for taking the leading role. It was John Skelton’s duty to start for the Cards while the backup role was given to Kolb, who had started for them last season. Skelton got the starting job as a result of better
offseason performance than Kolb.
As luck would have it, Skelton received an injury during the season opener against Seattle Seahawks and Kolb had to step in.
After Week 1 victory, it was clear that Kolb would start in Week 2 as Skelton had been expected to take some time to recover. However, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt did not confirm even at that time who would be their starting quarterback for the rest of
the season.
After their Week 2 victory, Cardinals were even more excited, but, again, Kolb did not get any assurance about having the starting role for the rest of the season.
Even though the Cards have recorded a milestone achievement by winning their first three games of the season, Whisenhunt has still not yet spilled any beans about their quarterback prospects for the rest of the season.
It is certain that Kolb will continue to start for Cardinals as long as Skelton is out, but the matter that attracts a lot of questions and debate is whether Kolb will be given starting role in presence of Skelton. The answer is not yet known.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Whisenhunt responded to the same question in the same way. He said:
“I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but until John (Skelton) is ready to play again, there’s nothing really new there, nothing to talk about.”
Skelton practised with the team on limited basis last week, but the coach does not want to say anything unless Skelton is hundred percent fit. He said:
“But I have to see him step and drive, do it in practice with guys around him.”
