Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely thrilled on record kick, regrets losing game – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely was thrilled on scoring a 61-yard field goal against Buffalo Bills in Week 6 game to set up a personal record, but the player has expressed disappointment that the team lost the game.
Feely scored a total of three field goals in the game. His field goal in the final quarter not only set up his record, but also tied the score and forced the game to overtime, which the Cards eventually lost the game.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Feely said of the kick:
“I felt that I had been hitting the ball well all day and if I hit it well that I could make that kick. Obviously I was thrilled to make it, but all I care about is winning. The fact that we didn’t win the game negates everything else.”
Cardinals are even more disappointed because it was their second defeat in a row. They are 4-2 and still leading National Football Conference (NFC) West, but they could have strengthened their lead in the division by winning this close-margin game. Seattle
Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers also have the same record as far as number of victories and defeats is concerned.
Feely’s record-setting goal tied the game and for a moment Bills also felt jitters. According to the details present on Bills’ website, head coach Chan Gailey said of his feelings when Feely was attempting the field goal:
“You can't explain the emotions. There is just no way. You don't think there is any way a guy is going to make a 61-yarder, and then you think for sure he is going to make the short one and he doesn't.”
Meanwhile, it was also a memorable game for Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington, who scored his career-best 14 tackles in the game.
However, the linebacker, too, has expressed disappointment over the loss, saying that the defeat has left a bad taste in his mouth.
It was a great game for the Cards as two of their players gave record performances, while their quarterback John Skelton also returned to the field after being sidelined in the season opener.
On the other hand, they got some bad news as quarterback Kevin Kolb was injured and sidelined.
