Arizona Cardinals look for fourth straight home victory as Buffalo Bills visit – NFL Preview
Arizona Cardinals’ astounding start to the season was hampered in Week 5 when they lost against St. Louis Rams, but they are still up for continuing their winning run on home as they take on Buffalo Bills in Week 6 game on Sunday, October 14, at University
of Phoenix Stadium.
The Cards started off the season 4-0, their best in decades, but could not stretch their winning streak to five games. However, they have played three home games this season without losing any, and are hoping to get their fourth straight home victory to
retain their dominance in National Football Conference (NFC) West.
The Cards have relied strongly on their defence this season, but that needs to change soon and the offence must also keep up with the progress.
Although quarterback Kevin Kolb has done well since replacing John Skelton in the season opener, his last game was an eye opener as he was sacked nine times.
Bills, unlike Cardinals, are not having an ideal season. A particular disappointing factor for Bills is the lacklustre performance of their defence that has players like Mario Williams, who are not only very talented, but very expensive for the franchise
too.
The last two games for Bills have been more than just disappointment. In their Week 4 game, they gave tough time to one of the league’s best teams, New England Patriots, but failed to capitalise on their momentum and gave away record 45 points in the second
half to lose the game.
In their Week 5 game against San Francisco 49ers, Bills gave away 45 points. As if that was not enough, the offence also struggled badly and was able to score only one field during the entire game and no other scoring opportunity was created.
Bills head coach Chan Gailey is hopeful that his team will bounce back. According to the details present on the team’s website, the head coach said:
“We are going into the sixth game of the season. It is not like we are in the 12th game; in the 12th game you are more concerned about the other guys. We are still, because of all of our new people, we are still finding out what we
have and the direction we need to go.”
Bills offence has struggled during the last two games, while the Cards have shown some inconsistency on defence of late.
In their Week 4 victory over Miami Dolphins, Cardinals won in overtime, but were trailing by 13 points after first half. In their Week 5 loss against Rams, they scored only three points. So, the offence must improve if Cardinals want to take advantage of
Bills’ flaws.
Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has acknowledged that the offence needs to improve. Cardinals’ team website quoted him as saying:
“The Bills have a good offence. It hasn’t shown in the last couple of weeks, but we have given up explosive plays the last two weeks, we have to do a better job in the details.”
