Arizona Cardinals – one of the worst teams in NFL 2012 season - Feature
The 2012 season is going to end in a few weeks, but it is easy to tell the teams that have displayed pathetic game-play, crushing the hopes of their fans.
Among them, a prominent name is Arizona Cardinals. The Cards started the season on a record-setting note by winning the first four games. What followed, however, was a dreadful tale of mishaps and improper planning, resulting in nine straight defeats for
Arizona.
Although the Cardinals managed to end that streak recently by defeating the Detroit Lions, the win was yet to compensate for the earlier defeats, especially the one that came against the Seattle Seahawks just before the recent win.
The game finished at 58-0, the most humiliating loss of Cardinals. It was an effortless performance that made them not score any point.
The offence has faced some problems this season, but the defence was equally responsible for the loss against the Seahawks.
Head coach Ken Whisenhunt must find logical answers, if there are any, to justify the team’s performance and his decisions, especially with respect to the quarterback scenario.
Rotating quarterbacks in a game has caused difficulty for receivers to catch passes and other offence players to make blocks as all the quarterbacks have different ways of passing and rushing.
The chemistry between any quarterback and receivers did not develop properly, which is the main reason of their loss in every game.
Quarterbacks Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and Ryan Lindley have been tried on the starting line, but the Cards still seem helpless on the field.
Another problem the offence has faced is disappointing performance of wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Early Doucet, but their failure is also linked with the below-par quarterback shows.
Fitzgerald and Doucet have started most of the games this season. Fitzgerald has 57 receptions for 652 yards and scored four touchdowns, while Doucet has 28 receptions for 207 yards, he did not score any touchdown.
Whisenhunt has all the right to choose a good quarterback, who could lead the team with poise. Under his leadership the team can get united.
Presumably, Whisenhunt might face some troubles as far his prospects with the Cards are concerned. The jobs of general manager Rod Graves and defensive coordinator Ray Horton could also be threatened after the season.
In one of his remarks, Whisenhunt said about getting fired:
"I am not naïve to think that's not going to happen. I understand that that's a part of it but I am still going to do my job and work hard and believe in what I am doing."
According to Cardinals president Michael Bidwill, the loss against Seahawks is unacceptable, as it is the worst in the Cardinals history. They will decide after the season whether Whisenhunt remains coach or not.
