Arizona Cardinals overcome struggling Philadelphia Eagles to go 3-0 – NFL Recap
The struggling Philadelphia Eagles finally got defeated in Week 3 game of the 2012 season as Arizona Cardinals easily outscored them 27-6, getting off to a 3-0 start for the first time in more than three decades.
On Sunday, September 23, University of Phoenix Stadium witnessed Eagles once again showcasing below par performance and this time even fortune did not favour them.
Eagles won their first two games of the season despite having many loopholes in their performance and since they could not overcome them the result of the game does not come as surprise.
Their quarterback Michael Vick played well in the game only in a sense that he did not throw any interception. He was unable to control his passes during the first two games and did the same in Week 3 game as well. In this game, Vick completed 17 passes
of 37 attempts for 217 yards.
On the other hand, his Cardinals counterpart Kevin Kolb, a former member of Eagles, completed 17 of his 24 passes for 222 yards and got two touchdowns. He said after the game:
"I'm going to enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but the biggest thing is being 3-0. Being 3-0 with the teams that we've played and the fashion that we've won, it's been exciting.”
With the victory, Cardinals have got the lead in the National Football Conference (NFC) West. San Francisco 49ers are behind them with 2-1.
Cardinals dominated the game right from the start. They got a field goal in the first quarter and Kolb later connected with Michael Floyd for a touchdown in the same quarter.
The second quarter saw Cardinals scoring two touchdowns. At first, Kolb and star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald connected to score a touchdown, while James Sanders scored on a fumble return later in the quarter.
At halftime, the Cards were leading 24-0.
Eagles finally got their first scoring move in the third quarter as they scored a field goal that was followed by another field goal from them. They could not provide any more scoring moves during the game.
Cardinals got a field goal in the final quarter to seal the victory, 27-6.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid said after the game:
“Field position, turnovers, you can’t play a good football team like that and have the turnovers that we’ve had and not have position and so on. You’ve got to do a better job than that. That, again, absolutely is on me. And I have to get my football team
ready to play. I did a terrible job this week.”
Eagles have now come down to third spot in the NFC East with Dallas Cowboys leading the division and Giants behind them. All three teams are at 2-1.
Eagles are now going to face Giants in Week 4 game while Cardinals will take on Miami Dolphins.
