Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton ready to take starting role again – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton is ready to take the starting quarterback position again from Week 7 game against Minnesota Vikings.
He started the season opener against Seattle Seahawks, but was sidelined during the game after receiving an injury. Skelton missed the next four games and returned for short period in Week 6 against Buffalo Bills.
Now he is going to take the field right from the start as the Cards get ready take on the Vikings. According to the details present on the team’s website, Skelton said of getting the starting job again:
“It does take a little time to get back into the flow of things. But it’s not like we’re going from the end of last year to the beginning of this year. It’s not a whole year off or anything. You’re still mentally dialed in. You still see a hot on film whenever
there is. Now it’s just going out and executing it and sticking to our rules as an offence.”
Last year, Skelton had played as backup to quarterback Kevin Kolb. This offseason, Cardinals monitored performance of both quarterbacks and Skelton won the quarterback competition by performing better than Kolb during offseason and preseason and was eventually
named starter.
However, he could not finish even one game as starter and was forced out by the injury. The quarterback said about it:
“It’s frustrating more than anything, to put in all the hard work in the past years and the offseason, getting named starter and then kind of have it disappear and have it taken away from you that early.”
In Skelton’s absence, Kolb led the team to one of its best starts to any season in decades. Skelton was fit before the game against Bills, but Cardinals still preferred playing Kolb as starter.
However, Kolb was forced out with some injury problems, allowing Skelton to take the field. Kolb is expected to remain out for the next few weeks during which Skelton will continue to play as starter.
Skelton said of Kolb’s absence:
“It’s terrible what happened to Kevin. Injuries are part of the game, the same thing with me the first week.”
