Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Kevin Kolb is not bothered by concussion anymore – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback, Kevin Kolb, has rather been unfortunate when it comes to suffering concussions, but he seems unbothered by such injuries now.
Still struggling to prove his worth, Kolb’s last National Football League (NFL) season was also cut short due to concussion. He also suffered concussion when he was playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.
As he prepares of the upcoming season, he has adopted a precautionary measure by wearing a special helmet, which, he believes, will prevent the occurrence of injuries like concussion.
Furthermore, he has also said that such injuries could occur to any player and that there is no need of worrying about these injuries at the moment.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, he said of concussion:
“I don’t worry about them. It was a freak deal. They don’t happen all the time.”
Kolb only played nine games last season in which he completed a total of 146 passes of 253 attempts for 1,955 yards while scoring nine touchdowns and throwing eight interceptions. The record could have been much better had he played all games of the season.
In Kolb’s absence, John Skelton took the starting role and both quarterbacks are now competing against each other for the starting role in the 2012 season.
Some critics are also saying that Kolb has made these remarks because he does not want to show any weakness that could affect his chances against Skelton.
On the other hand, Cardinals’ coach, Ken Whisenhunt, is also not worried about Kolb’s concussion.
While appreciating the league’s efforts to increase players’ safety and prevent occurrence of concussion, Whisenhunt said of Kolb:
“There are procedures in place and the NFL has done a good job. The equipment has changed trying to protect the players. I haven’t even thought about it. That’s something, if it happens in a game, it happens, because you have big guys running fast and there
are going to be collisions.”
He added:
“The NFL has done a very good job of trying to protect players and give them information. As far as safety for players and how the NFL is handling it, I think it’s the best it has ever been.”
