Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Kevin Kolb speaks on the team’s interest in Peyton Manning – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback, Kevin Kolb, has once again reiterated that he was not bothered by his team’s attempt to bring former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, to Arizona, but Kolb also spoke of slight reservation he felt during the
time when the Cards were actively pursuing Manning.
Kolb was reporting to the first day of the team’s offseason workout programme when he was asked how he felt when the management chased Manning. Had Manning agreed to join Cardinals, Kolb could have been sent packing.
However, Kolb handles the issue rather professionally and said that he understands the business pretty well. He was of the view that the team management takes all the decision keeping the team’s interest in mind.
That being said, Kolb also expressed his reservations slightly and said that it would have been much better if head coach Ken Whisenhunt had communicated to him the management’s desire of hiring Peyton.
Kolb said:
“If you have been in this league a while you understand you have to fight for your job every single day, every single year. It’s management’s job to do their best to improve every position and in my mind, it’s their right to go look wherever they need to
look. There were a few things that maybe could have been handled a little bit different, and we’ve discussed those.”
The quarterback added:
“I just said, in the future, if you can just communicate with me, I can take it, if this is the route you’re going. I’d just rather hear it from (Whisenhunt) than the ticker (on TV).”
However, there are no issues between the coach and the quarterback and both are looking forward to the offseason activities.
It is pertinent to note here that last season was Kolb’s first with the Cards, and despite performing well, he was unable to leave a lasting impression, apparently because he could not play all games of the regular season owing to injury.
In Kolb’s absence, John Skelton played as Cardinals’ starting quarterback and did a satisfactory job.
After the season, Whisenhunt had already said that Kolb and Skelton would have to compete for the starting role in the next season and Kolb now wants to focus on that challenge rather than worrying about Peyton Manning, who eventually agreed to join Denver
Broncos.
