Arizona Cardinals’ quarterbacks getting ready for next season – NFL News
Halfway through the last National Football League (NFL) season, it was speculated that the Arizona Cardinals would make drastic changes in their offensive line and the quarterback position especially would see new faces.
Kevin Kolb and John Skelton already got starting role during the next season and no one knew if they would be back in the 2012 season. Richard Bartel, the third-string quarterback, was another option.
During the offseason, Cards also showed interest in acquiring former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, but they failed. Had they brought Peyton in, one of the quarterbacks might have been let go.
As it turned out, the Cards had the same three quarterbacks when this year’s offseason voluntary workout as they had during last season.
Also, they added another quarterback during the 2012 NFL draft and selected San Diego State’s Ryan Lindley in the sixth round as 185th pick.
Now with four quarterbacks in the roster, Cards have started workout and are looking forward to the next season.
The three quarterbacks who already know the system and offensive scheme are taking the present workout as an opportunity to get in proper rhythm and shape. Lindley will join the team in its minicamp for rookies.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Bartel is planning on improving his consistency. He said:
“It’s a great time to lay a foundation. It’s imperative, even at the professional level. You always need to revisit that stuff. Consistency is everything. The only way you can be consistent is to be efficient as possible, so every time you drop back, it’s
not a new experience every time. The more redundant we can be, the better.”
Skelton, on the other hand, is hoping to overcome his flaws, which brought him under the line of fire last season.
He said:
“I am throwing some good balls but my feet are messed up and that’s when I get coached up. Not only with coach McNulty but coach (Whisenhunt) back there and coach Mike (Miller) sometimes.”
Earlier, Cardinals’ head coach, Ken Whisenhunt, had said that Kolb will be the team’s starter next season, but he did not rule out the possibility of competition.
The field is wide open for all the quarterbacks and the one who performs well could eventually end up getting the starting role.
