Arizona Cardinals stun Dallas Cowboys 19-13 at University of Phoenix Stadium – NFL Week 13 Recap
A missed opportunity by Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey after a time-out call by Coach Jason Garrett sent the game to overtime where Arizona Cardinals fully utilised the chance and secured a victory 19-13 in the week 13 game of
the National Football League current season at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday.
At the end of the fourth quarter, when scores were tied 13-13, Bailey kicked the ball to its destination, but the coach called a time-out and the move was nullified. When the proceedings resumed, Bailey kicked again, but this time
he missed and the game was taken to overtime.
"The first one, I felt like I hit it good. Obviously it went in," Bailey said. "We called the timeout, but that is my job to regroup and make the next one. I didn't do that. No excuses. I should have made it despite the circumstances."
During the overtime, it was Arizona Cardinals’ turn to shine. Quarterback Kevin Kolb, whose return after recovering from an injury was desperately awaited, ensured that a 52-yard pass landed safely in the hands of LaRod Stephens-Howling,
who did not hear Kolb’s call to go for a field goal instead of a touchdown, and kept running until he reached the end zone.
"As soon as he broke for 20 (yards), I'm screaming behind him 'Go down! Go down!'” Kolb said about LaRod. "But when those guys get a chance, they're not going to, and I'm glad he didn't now."
A victory for Cowboys could have given them a two-game advantage over the New York Giants, who were defeated by Green Bay Packers. A loss for both the teams has still kept the competition in the National Football Conference East
division alive.
The game was evenly poised until the end. In the first quarter, Jay Feely kicked a 48-yard field goal to put Cardinals in front.
Cowboys responded well in the second quarter and stole the lead. At first, Dan Bailey scored a 50-yard field goal to level the scores. The move was ensued by Tony Romo’s five-yard pass to Dez Bryant, who scored a touchdown to take
the score to 10-3.
Coming after the halftime, both teams managed a field goal each. Jay Feely kicked from 23-yards for Cardinals while Bailey sent the ball to its charted course from 37-yards, maintaining the Cowboys’ lead 13-6.
Early in the fourth quarter, Cardinals equalised the scores when Beanie Wells ran for four-yards to reach the end zone. At the end of the quarter, Cowboys got a chance to score a field goal that would give them their eighth victory,
but the coach called a time-out and Bailey did not kick the ball perfectly after that.
The game went into the overtime and Kolb and LaRod saw Cardinals through to their second straight win.
Cowboys’ Tony Romo was clearly disappointed after the loss and said that his team committed many mistakes during the game.
"There were a lot of mistakes out there today," he said. "We can look at a lot of different areas.”
