Arizona Cardinals to give starting quarterback duties back to Derek Anderson
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson will get the start in place of Max Hall when they take on the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday, 7 November, coach Ken Whisenhunt has announced.
"I think the last two times he's been in the game we've had a little bit of success moving the ball, both in Seattle and last week, obviously, against Tampa Bay," Whisenhunt said of Anderson's two most
recent performances coming in as a backup both times. "I think going into this environment and just that situation, I feel right now that's the direction that gives us the best chance to win this game."
Anderson started the season as the team's starting quarterback before being replaced by rookie Hall. Hall struggled in his last two starts and was benched in the first half last week in the Cardinals 38-35
loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"I'm disappointed in myself for not taking advantage of the opportunity, but I'm going to support (Anderson)," Hall said after practice on Wednesday. "I think he'll do a good job. I'm going to keep working,
keep getting better, because you never know, I might need to play again."
Anderson admitted that coming off the bench has helped him improve his play by virtue of the fact that it forces him to put less pressure on himself. "I've been trying to find a way, when I do come in,
to approach it the same exact way," he said. "In my preparation during the week, stay relaxed and try and stay loose. I think I play my best when I am that way."
Hall won his first game as a starter when the Cardinals upset the defending Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints, but since then the Cardinals have lost two in a row.
