Arizona Cardinals vs Tennessee Titans Recap – Second Half
The second half of Monday night’s game proved just as difficult for the Cardinals as the first. The Cardinals took possession from the 20 yard line as the 3rd quarter began. Offensive Tackle Reggie Wells started the first play for the Cardinals and rushed 17 yard. The Cardinal with Derek Anderson could only gain 22 yards in a ten play drive before the Titans regained possession.
The Titans’ drive was led by quarterback Kerry Collins from their 18 yard line. Collins made an 8 play 56 yards drive which included a 15 yard pass to Damian Williams and 25 yard pass to Jared Cook to get to the Arizona 26 yard line.
On the 26 yard line there was some amazing football. The Titans’ wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins moved left to escape the Arizona defence but was confronted by Cardinals cornerback Marshay Green and Free Safety Rashad Johnson. Green was headed straight for Hawkins while Johnson tried to take him down from his right. Hawkins evaded both in one swift move. He jumped over both Green and Johnson at the same time, leaving Johnson tackling Green. Hawkins carried the ball to the Arizona 4 yard line before being pushed out of bounds by linebacker Daryl Washington.
Running back Samkon Gado took over from there. Rushing to the right and then breaking through the Cardinals’ defence, running over 3 Cardinals defenders for touchdown. The Titans increased the points difference by 14 points.
The Cardinals started their drive on the 28 yard line but lost possession again on the 28th yard after fumbling the ball while trying to punt it. The Titans take possession on the 15 yard line and set their sight on touchdown. First play is rushed by Samkon Gado who had just come off a touchdown run. Gado made it to the 12 yard line. Quarterback Chris Simms completed an 8 yard pass to Williams to edge ever closer to the endzone. Gado powered straight through the middle of the Cardinals’ defence for a 4 yard touchdown without meeting much resistance. The Field Goal was good and the Titans increased their lead to 21.
Cardinals’ offense was just helpless. They lost possession again after driving just 8 yards with quarterback Max Hall before losing possession with an interception. The pass was intended for Darren Mougey who was deep right but was intercepted by Nick Schommer at the Tennessee 49 yard line. The Titans however resumed play on the 39 yard line after a 10 yard penalty was incurred by Titans’ safety Myron Rolle. Chris Simms led the subsequent Titans charge from their 39 yard line to the Arizona 40 yard line but couldn’t drive any further. On the 40 yard line the Titans punt the ball and Arizona resumed play at the 15 yard line.
The Cardinals finally made some headway when Max Hall returned again on field. Hall completed a 20 yard pass to Max Komar on the very first play. 3 plays later, Max again completed a 20 yard pass from the Tennessee 49 yard line to wide receiver Edward Gant. In 7 plays Max drove the Cardinals from their 15 yard line to the Tennessee 22 yard line. Max moved to the right looking for someone to pass to and found Komar open. Komar made no mistakes and headed to the endzone with safety Myron Rolle on his tail. Rolle was unable to catch up and the Cardinals scored a touchdown closing in on the Titans. The Field goal was good.
Titan’s Running back Blount attempted 5 rushes for 11 yard after the Cardinals’ touchdown. Chris Simms and Blount drove from the 41 yard line to the 16 yard line but couldn’t move any further. Just four minutes remained in the game when the Cardinals drove 15 yards and the Titans, 10 yards without scoring. The Titans were in possession during the final minute on their 44 yard line. With 33 seconds remaining, quarterback Rusty Smith took a knee to end the game.
Titans led 24 – 10 by the end of the fourth quarter to win the game.
